“WHO?” The 1st of 5 W’s ~ Google Adwords Success

This is the first of 5 W’s that when answered properly, will put you on the path to a profitable Google Adwords campaign.  In case you missed yesterdays introduction, the 5 W’s are:

Who?  What?  Where?  When? and Why?

Today we are going to answer the first question that will put you on the path to profits with Google Adwords!

WHO?

The question “WHO?” is asking this:  “Who is your target audience?”

Who Is Your Target Audience

The answer to this question might surprise you, but it’s actually found in the keywords that you use!!!

A close second to answering this question, and it’s really not answering it so to speak, but you must also put yourself in the shoes of “WHO” you’re trying to reach.  This is a critical step after you’ve answered the question of “WHO?” and started compiling your keyword phrases ~ you must put yourself in your customers shoes.  Or the other way to say it is:  “what keyword phrases would people if they needed what you offer?”

Researching, identifying, and integrating the proper keyword phrases begins with the question: “WHO is my target audience?”  This audience is defined in many different ways:

  1. Is your target audience male, female, or both?
  2. What is the age demographic of your target audience:  young, old, teens, etc…
  3. Who are you trying to reach with your message:  those that are ready to “buy”, or those “exploring”, or those just “browsing”
  4. Is your audience “consumer oriented” or “business owners”

As you proceed through the question of “WHO?”, your answers are going to help you build your keyword list.

You see, keywords “define your audience” – Keyword answer the “WHO?” of who you you’re trying to get your message, product, or service to!

Applying “WHO?” To A Campaign

Let’s say you are a carpet cleaner in Orlando, Florida and you’re getting ready to launch your first Google Adwords campaign.  You sit down with a pen and paper, and you ask yourself “WHO is my target audience?”.  You might get something like the following list:

Homeowners, men & women, business owner, property managers, etc…

Now that we have a few keywords to get us started, let’s now put ourselves in your customers shoes!

What keywords would a “homeowner, business owner, property manager” use when searching for your carpet cleaning business?  They might look something like this:

“carpet cleaners in orlando”, “residential carpet cleaners”, “apartment carpet cleaners”, “orlando carpet cleaners”, etc…

It is clear that these phrases are built upon a solid answer of “WHO” your target audience is, and then from putting yourself in your customers shoes – what phrases your customers would use to search for you!
